by | Aug 13, 2024 | Education | 0 comments

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme is an initiative by the Government of India to promote the use of solar energy in the agricultural sector.

Launched in 2019, it aims to provide energy security to farmers and reduce their dependence on diesel and kerosene.

Key components of the PM-KUSUM scheme include:

Component A: Installation of 10,000 MW of decentralized ground-mounted grid-connected renewable power plants.

Component B: Installation of 20 lakh standalone solar-powered agriculture pumps.

Component C: Solarization of 15 lakh grid-connected agriculture pumps.

The scheme offers substantial subsidies, with the central government providing up to 30% of the total cost for the installation of solar pumps and solar power plants.

This initiative not only helps in reducing the carbon footprint but also enhances the income of farmers by allowing them to sell surplus solar power to the grid.
